WE
ARE HAVING A BREAK FROM PUTTING ON GIGS FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE. WE ARE HOWEVER
ALWAYS LOOKING FOR GOOD, FRESH, ORIGINAL MUSIC TO PLAY ON OUR "PLANET BEET"
RADIO SHOW ON NEW YORK-based BREAKTHRU RADIO.
Send
Your Demo To:
Planet Beet, 175c Aylsham Rd, Norwich, NR3 2AD.
(Send
your demo in CD/CDr format. You can email
us links to MP3s, but PLEASE don't email us the actual MP3s.)
SOME
HELPFUL NUDGES:
- Firstly, Covers/Tribute
bands need not apply. Nothing against them, but that's just not what we're
about.
- Most of the bands we
play are young, or young-ISH, but we certainly aren't age-ist, so if you're
familiar with the sort of bands we book, and you think your act/band will
go down well on the Planet Beet radio show, then please send us your demo,
regardless of your age.
- We mainly book indie-rock
type stuff, BUT if we aren't personally into your songs, then we probably
won't play you, so please don't be offended.
- Your demo doesn't have
to be an expensive studio recording. Good songs and good bands shine through
no matter how they're recorded.
- Hassling us will NOT
get you played. Probably the opposite in fact.. You'd be suprised how many
bands think the way to get a gig is to interupt my work by ringing me EVERY
THURSDAY at 7pm when I'm at the venue struggling to get 3 bands soundchecked
in time for the doors to open! That is NOT the way to endear yourself to me.
A follow-up email a few weeks after sending your demo is all you need to do.
But If I like your demo, don't worry, I'll get in touch somehow.
- Make sure to include
your home phone number, mobile number, email, website URL (if you have a website),
and of course BANDNAME, on EVERY ITEM YOU SEND (ie CD, Biog, CD Sleeve
etc..), cos CDs do get seperated from packaging, if only so they can be stacked
neatly. Include a Biog(raphy) by all means, but PLEASE don't go on about how
"unique" and "amazing" the band are, and how you "don't
sound like any other band". We let our ears do the judging. You don't
have to be even vaguely original to be a good band,
but it helps.
- If your band is local,
bear in mind that if you haven't managed to attract ANY kind of following/fanbase
in Norwich, then we probably aren't up for risking losing money by booking
you, unless we LOVE your music a hell of a lot, which does occasionally happen,
hehe. Though you don't need a following to be played on our radio show.
- Lastly, please tell
us where you are based. We DO book out-of-town bands sometimes, but obviously
there's no point us doing that if there are similar local bands that are just
as good, cos we're primarily a local venue for local people; but, if there's
an amazing band from Glasgow/Wales/California that we think are too-good-to-ignore
(and willing to travel a long way to play in the back of a pub with no guarantee
of payment!) then we'll do our best to book them. Location is however
of no importance when it comes to whether or not we'll play you on our radio
show. We do base it around local-ish bands, but we play music from all over
the world.
